As of 12:00 on 28 August, the number of Ukrainians who cannot be reached in the flood-hit area on the Nepal–Tibet border remains unchanged: 56.
These include two tourist groups of 48 and seven people, as well as one Ukrainian woman travelling as part of a foreign tourist group. Search-and-rescue operations are continuing, the Foreign Ministry’s press service said.
At present, there are no Ukrainians on the lists of the dead or injured.
The Embassy of Ukraine in China is maintaining constant contact with the Chinese authorities. Consular officials from the Embassy of Ukraine in India are on the ground in Nepal. Working with the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Nepal, they have held a series of urgent meetings with Nepalese government agencies, foreign counterparts, the manager of the hotel where one of the Ukrainian groups had been staying, the tour organiser, and others.
“The lists provided by the hotel and diplomatic missions have been cross-checked. Ukrainian consuls are coordinating efforts with colleagues from foreign diplomatic missions and tour operators to locate Ukrainian citizens, maintaining constant contact with emergency rescue services and the relatives of Ukrainian citizens. The Government of Nepal has established an Emergency Response Team (ERT) within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate search-and-rescue work. The situation remains difficult due to the scale of the destruction, limited access to mountainous areas, and the risk of further landslides. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consular Service Department, and the Embassies of Ukraine in India and China continue to monitor the situation and are keeping the case of the disappearance of 56 Ukrainian citizens under special control,” the statement said.

The flooding in the border area between Nepal and Tibet, which is controlled by China, began on 26 August. Since then, a rescue and search operation has been under way, but it has been hampered by bad weather. As of the morning of 28 August, the death toll stood at 475 people, including both local residents and tourists.
