As of 11am on 29 August, electricity supplies began to be restored to Mykolayiv, which was completely left without power as a result of the Russian overnight strike on energy infrastructure. Power has been restored to more than 200 settlements in total. Around 230 remain without electricity, acting head of the Mykolayiv Regional Military Administration Heorhiy Reshetilov reported.
In the morning, the Russians attacked Mykolayiv’s port infrastructure. There were no casualties.
The Mayor of Mykolayiv urged people whose power has already been restored to use electricity sparingly. He asked residents not to switch on high-powered appliances at the same time so as not to create additional load. It is also recommended not to use lifts due to the risk of breakdowns.
“Electric public transport is also gradually returning to its usual timetable so as not to overload the network,” he said.
Hospitals and other critical facilities are equipped with generators so they can continue operating even without centralised electricity supply.
