Russia attacked the Kherson combined heat and power (CHP) plant of the Naftogaz Group again overnight on 27 August, dropping four guided aerial bombs on the facility.
The plant suffered critical damage. As a result of the strike, all remaining heat- and power-generating equipment at the site was completely destroyed and put out of action, Naftogaz said.
“The Russians struck an exclusively civilian facility that supplies heat to a significant share of Kherson’s residential buildings. This attack has no military purpose whatsoever. Its only aim is to terrorise the civilian population and try to deprive tens of thousands of Kherson residents of a source of heat on the eve of the heating season,” said Serhiy Fedorenko, acting head of Naftogaz’s management board.
- The Russians also hit the Kherson CHP plant with a guided aerial bomb yesterday. They carried out regular strikes on the plant last winter. After those attacks, the regional military administration said there was no point in restoring the CHP plant in its previous form.
