The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have served suspicion notices on two servicemen for soliciting and receiving an undue advantage from representatives of a company manufacturing electronic warfare equipment. According to investigators, they received the money in exchange for the military unit’s unhindered acceptance of electronic warfare systems.
In October last year, a non-governmental organisation signed a contract with a private company to purchase electronic warfare devices worth more than UAH 22.4 million. NABU and SAPO reported that one of the officers responsible for the unit’s acceptance of the equipment asked the manufacturer’s representatives for a 10% kickback — UAH 2.24 million.
“He later increased the amount of the undue advantage to 20% of the contract value — UAH 4.48 million,” the statement said.
Another serviceman, acting as an accomplice, received the first part of the kickback — $20,000. After that, the perpetrators began demanding the second part of the undue advantage — $80,000.
They were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The servicemen were notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 368 (accepting an offer, promise or receiving an undue advantage by an official) and Part 5 of Article 27 (complicity) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, respectively.
