A resident of the Lviv region has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property after the SBU exposed him in May last year, 2025, for directing strikes on the region.

According to the SBU website, the FSB recruited the unemployed local man after he posted anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channel chats.

Case materials say the agent tracked the locations of military airbases in the western region, which Russia was preparing to target with air attacks.

The suspect drove around the area to identify and pass on to the FSB the coordinates of airfields that, in his view, could be used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s army aviation.

He photographed the sites with location references and marked their geolocations on Google Maps for a subsequent “report” to his handler in Russia. He also planned to set up a concealed video camera in a forest with remote access for the FSB and a view of a potential “target”.

Using the “video trap”, Russian intelligence officers hoped to track the presence of military equipment in real time and strike it with a missile-and-drone attack.

SBU officers exposed the traitor at an early stage of his activities and detained him at his place of residence.

The court found the man guilty of high treason.
