Russia is trying to strike at Ukraine’s economy by destroying facilities that help the country function in wartime conditions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this on social media.
Russian forces have continued a massive attack with strike drones throughout the day. By the evening, “Shaheds” were still in the air, and the total number of drones launched since morning had approached 500.
"Zelenskyy stressed that Russia is effectively shifting part of the war from the front line into the economic sphere. In his view, Russia’s tactic is to destroy civilian infrastructure and businesses that can help Ukrainians remain resilient during the war.
"The Russians are burning food warehouses and petrol stations, pharmaceuticals and ordinary passenger trains, residential buildings and civilian enterprises," the president said.
Russia Attacks Businesses Linked to Foreign Companies
He also reported strikes on enterprises owned by or connected to foreign businesses. In particular, the Russians attacked a steelworks owned by an Indian business, a US company producing sunflower oil, and a Polish company that manufactured sanitary ware.
Other targets included lorry parks, ports, shopping centres and energy facilities.
The president stressed that Russian strikes must receive not only a response, but also a proper moral and political assessment from Ukraine’s international partners.
Russian businesses and oligarchs who pay taxes into the war budget and support Vladimir Putin’s system must feel the consequences of the aggression.
"Usmanov and Fridman are precisely the kind of Russian business figures who must find the courage to take concrete steps against the war. This is precisely the Russian economy that must not be given additional opportunities while the Ukrainian economy suffers from Russian terror and Putin’s unwillingness to stop the war," the head of state explained.
