During searches at the Prosecutor General’s Office, NABU detectives acted strictly within the law, on the basis of orders issued by investigating judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court. NABU Director Semen Kryvonos said this at a briefing on 14 September.
A report was seized there. There is information about so-called counter-intelligence cases against NABU detectives, some of whom previously had surveillance equipment discovered targeting them.
“And these detectives are working on important criminal proceedings and hold important positions. They are heads of detective units, their deputies. And, of course, this information was contained there,” he said.
SAPO Head Oleksandr Klymenko added that a list of detectives against whom cases are being pursued was seized.
“And this is solely for the purpose of pressure, because these are key detectives who are investigating the main criminal proceedings. In other words, there was no kind of general case that was seized. Nothing of the sort was seized by detectives and prosecutors,” he said.
Kryvonos also dismissed as nonsense Kravchenko’s claim that the President and anti-corruption bodies had guaranteed him immunity.
- Today Ruslan Kravchenko claimed that the main purpose of the searches at the Prosecutor General’s Office in the ‘Carthage’ case was to seize materials relating to NABU and SAPO staff. He did not specify what he meant.
- Kravchenko also said that he had previously been held back from signing suspicion notices by the President and anti-corruption bodies, “offering guarantees of immunity in exchange for refusing to issue suspicion notices”.
