Anton Kovalskyi has been appointed Acting Prosecutor General.
This is stated in a decree by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“In accordance with part two of Article 11 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Legal Regime of Martial Law’, I hereby decree: to assign to Anton Anatoliiovych KOVALSKYI the performance of the duties of the Prosecutor General,” the document No. 946/2026 states.
The President signed the document on 17 September 2026.
Who Is Anton Kovalskyi
Anton Kovalskyi was born on 12 May 1984 in Vinnytsia. He has a higher education and, in 2011, graduated from the National Academy of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine with a degree in Law.
He began working in the prosecutor’s office in 2011, gradually holding the positions of senior investigator, senior prosecutor at the Vinnytsia city prosecutor’s office, senior prosecutor of a department at the Vinnytsia Region Prosecutor’s Office, head of the department overseeing compliance with the law by the fiscal service bodies within the supervision directorate in criminal proceedings of the Vinnytsia Region Prosecutor’s Office, head of the supervision directorate in criminal proceedings of the Vinnytsia Region Prosecutor’s Office, and deputy prosecutor of Vinnytsia Region.
From September 2020 to October 2021, he served as Deputy Head of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office; from November 2021, he was Head of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
From 1 July 2025, Anton Kovalskyi was appointed Head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Where Is the Previous Prosecutor General
On 15 September, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree dismissing Ruslan Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
On the same day, the Verkhovna Rada voted at a sitting to accept Kravchenko’s resignation, after he had been suspended from the post of Prosecutor General by a presidential decision. A total of 317 MPs voted in favour.
On the night of 14 September, Ruslan Kravchenko left the country under the pretext of a business trip. He wrote a post in which he accused the President of exerting pressure, and accused the anti-corruption bodies of putting pressure on the President.
Ruslan Kravchenko was appointed Prosecutor General on 17 June 2025. His dismissal came amid an NABU and SAP investigation into the activities of a criminal group operating within the Prosecutor General’s Office.
