Ukraine has signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Co-Production of Audiovisual Works in the Form of Series. Culture Minister Tetiana Berezhna reported this on Facebook.
The document opens up the possibility for Ukraine to create series jointly with European partners, attract international funding and enter new markets.
"This is an important step towards integrating Ukraine into the European cultural and audiovisual space. For the first time, we are regulating the co-production of series," Berezhna stressed.
The convention provides for the possibility of obtaining official co-production status. This gives project participants a defined share of the rights to the finished product and the income from its use.
The document also sets a minimum contribution from a partner in multilateral co-productions. According to the minister, this creates additional opportunities for Ukrainian creative teams to take part in large-scale international projects.
The convention was signed during the Carpathian Integration Summit, which runs from 18 to 20 September.
- Meanwhile, in June 2024 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the Council of Europe Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production. Its aim is to strengthen international cultural and economic cooperation, expand the Ukrainian film industry’s access to international markets, and showcase Ukrainian films at international film festivals and on platforms.
