In Kyiv, work is continuing to deal with the aftermath of the Russian attack that began overnight and continued into the morning. Russian forces launched a large number of drones at the capital, a significant proportion of them jet-powered. As of now, two people are known to have been killed and more than 20 injured.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the consequences of the shelling on social media.
According to the President, during the attack the Russians once again struck civilian and critical infrastructure. Among the sites hit, he named pharmaceutical companies, petrol stations, the railway, communications facilities and shopping centres. Zelenskyy also reported strikes on towns and communities in eight regions.
Partners Agree That Now Is Not a “Time for Weakness”
The President said that during meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Ukraine is working to maintain international support. He separately stressed the need for sanctions pressure on Russia.
“It is important that sanctions send a signal to Russia and, in particular, its oligarchs that the war must be brought to an end, not waited out,” Zelenskyy said.
