From 25 September, Lithuania began applying national sanctions against Russian oligarchs Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman.
This was reported by Rokas Pukinskas, a representative of Lithuania’s Migration Department, LRT writes.
According to him, following an appeal by the foreign minister, the interior minister decided to add Usmanov and Fridman to the national list of persona non grata. After receiving the decision, the Migration Department immediately added both businessmen to the list.
They have been banned from entering Lithuania for a period of five years. Under Lithuanian law, such a ban may be reviewed and extended if a person poses a threat to national security or public order.
Vilnius’s decision was taken after the European Union removed Usmanov and Fridman from its sanctions list during a review of restrictions on individuals linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
In addition to Lithuania, Estonia has already imposed national sanctions against the two Russian oligarchs. Earlier, Latvia took a similar decision.
