Ukraine and Germany have signed an agreement to deepen co-operation in countering drones. Under the arrangements, Germany will make broader use of Ukraine’s experience.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this during a joint briefing with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for journalists in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
“We will also make even greater use of Ukraine’s experience in countering drones. To that end, we have signed the relevant agreement,” Merz said.
The Chancellor stressed that defence co-operation between Ukraine and Germany is two-way.
“Germany is helping Ukraine, but Ukraine is also helping Germany. Representatives of the defence industry who are accompanying me today are learning from Ukraine’s wartime experience. Conversely, German and Ukrainian companies are setting up high-tech joint ventures,” he said.
According to Merz, the relevance of co-operation on countering UAVs for Germany was demonstrated by the Russian attack on an airport in Leipzig on 4 August.
- In the second half of October, Ukraine expects the first results of a small-missile programme that is planned to be used to counter jet-powered drones.
