Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf said the Strait of Hormuz would not be reopened until Tehran’s seven conditions, based on an interim agreement with the US, are met.
This was reported by The Times of Israel.
“The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran is absolutely clear and firm: the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened until our seven conditions are met, which are based on the Memorandum of Understanding concluded in Islamabad,” Ghalibaf said.
He said the US had recently conveyed its proposals to Iran through an intermediary.
“But they must understand that the period of dragging out the process and dictating unilateral demands is over,” the Iranian parliamentary speaker added.
- Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said diplomacy remains the only way to resolve the conflict with the US.
- The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had expressed doubts about Iran’s willingness to meet his demands and had considered resuming air strikes after the US midterm elections in November.
