Russian propaganda has launched a large-scale disinformation campaign to shift responsibility for the destruction of civilian and energy infrastructure on to the Ukrainian authorities.
This is reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation.
According to the Centre, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is supposedly merely “retaliating” for strikes on the Russian economy. At the same time, he is trying to place responsibility for the consequences of shelling of Ukrainian cities on the Ukrainian authorities.
To spread this narrative among foreign audiences, the Centre notes, Russia has enlisted Kremlin-loyal media outlets. Through them, manipulative claims are being circulated about the supposed “responsibility of the Ukrainian authorities for the escalation”.
The Centre stresses that with such statements the Kremlin is trying to justify Russian attacks against Ukraine and create the impression that they are supposedly a “forced response”.
- The enemy continues to carry out attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure. As a result of the shelling, as of the morning of 5 October there have been new power outages in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa and Kherson regions.
