On the morning of 5 October, a drone hit the Turkish vessel Royad Mammadov, which was carrying grain in the Black Sea off the Romanian coast. The ship sank as a result of the strike; two crew members were killed and another 11 were rescued.

Romania Journal reports, citing Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The incident occurred about 20 nautical miles off Romania’s coast and 9 nautical miles from the Pescăruș offshore platform operated by OMV Petrom.

According to the Romanian authorities, rescue vessels were dispatched to the area after an emergency report was received.

Romania’s maritime authority initially reported 13 crew members missing and the captain injured. The country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs later said that 11 crew members had been rescued and two had died.

An alert was raised at around 11:00 after the Romanian Naval Authority received a report of a serious incident outside the country’s territorial waters.
