EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has said that two more negotiation clusters on accession to the European Union could be opened for Ukraine and Moldova next week.
Kos made the remarks at a press conference after a meeting of the Moldova–EU Association Council, Suspilne reports.
According to her, EU member states should speed up the procedure after the Verkhovna Rada adopts the necessary education bill.
"We are very well aware of the procedures in the Verkhovna Rada regarding the submission of the education bill, but we hope the law will pass the Rada. As soon as that happens, of course, member states will have to speed up the procedure," Kos said.
The Commissioner suggested that the next two negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova could be opened as early as next week during an intergovernmental conference (IGC).
"It is possible that we will open the next two clusters for Moldova and Ukraine next week during the IGC. We hope to open two more clusters for Moldova very soon. And all of them by the end of the year," Kos added.
- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU will soon propose "roadmaps" for candidate countries that have made the most progress.
- In the summer, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, said that the EU aims to open all clusters of accession talks with Ukraine by the end of the year.
