In Russia, a refinery in Bashkortostan and a plant in the Ryazan Region that houses a Yandex data centre have caught fire. Russia’s Ministry of Defence claims it has supposedly neutralised 399 drones. The airline Pobeda delayed flights due to restrictions in some Regions of Russia.

Astra reports this.

In Bashkortostan, a fire likely broke out in the area of the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery. It is one of Russia’s largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes, located in the city of Salavat. The city is 1,400 km from the border with Ukraine. The fire reportedly occurred a few kilometres from the city, possibly in the vicinity of the refinery.

Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat processes up to 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbon feedstock each year. The enterprise, which is part of the Gazprom Group structure, produces more than 150 types of products, including motor petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, polyethylene, styrene and ammonia.

The enterprise has previously been targeted by drone attacks. On 24 September 2025, an attack damaged the ELOU-AVT-6 primary processing unit. And in July this year, a fire broke out at the refinery and oil processing came to a complete halt. A fire also occurred in August.

Also in Sasovo, in the Ryazan Region, a fire likely started on the premises of the Sasta machine-tool plant, where, according to Wikimapia, the Yandex DC LLC data centre is also located. Last month, employees of the data centre itself showed its equipment and stated directly that it is located in Sasovo, in the Ryazan Region.

The Sasta plant specialises in the production of metalworking machine tools. The company’s equipment is used in Russia’s defence, aerospace, transport and heavy industries.

The importance of Sasta for Russia’s defence-industrial complex lies not in producing finished weapons, but in providing the manufacturing base: its machine tools are needed to make high-precision metal parts and assemblies. Previously, Sasta supplied specialised machine tools to Roscosmos enterprises. The company is also under international sanctions imposed by Canada, Switzerland, the EU, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Yandex’s press service said there were no casualties as a result of the “incident” in the Rostov Region, and that the company’s main services are operating normally. Work is currently under way there to deal with the aftermath and restore affected services.

It was previously reported that there were problems accessing some Yandex cloud services.
