As of the morning of 8 October, the death toll from a Russian strike on Pryluky in Chernihiv Region has risen; the attack took place the previous night. By morning, the deaths of 22 people had been confirmed, including five children. Another 54 people were injured, including seven children.
The State Emergency Service said search-and-rescue operations continued throughout the night at the site of the attack. The regional police later reported that those injured included a three-year-old, a five-year-old, two nine-year-olds, a ten-year-old and a sixteen-year-old girl, an eleven-year-old boy, as well as a policewoman. The rescue operation has been completed; debris clearance and the dismantling of structures are ongoing.
Update. As a result of the Russian attack, a significant part of a five-storey apartment building was destroyed. Damage was reported to 37 apartment blocks (525 flats), 88 private houses, 25 vehicles, 20 businesses, five educational buildings, two pre-school institutions, the children’s and youth creativity centre, as well as a number of administrative buildings and shops.
The maximum number of police personnel have been deployed to deal with the aftermath of the attack: investigators, forensic specialists, operatives, community police officers, juvenile police, dog handlers with service dogs, psychologists and other police staff.
During the rescue operation, emergency workers managed to save 15 people, including a child.
Rescuers are currently continuing to clear the rubble and dismantle destroyed structures.

- On the outskirts of the city, police later found fragments of a Russian cruise missile, and a few hundred metres from where it fell they discovered an unexploded warhead.
