An illegal industrial-scale alcohol production operation has been uncovered in Uman. Law enforcement officers seized more than 10 tonnes of excise goods.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the investigation, the suspects set up a full alcohol production cycle: from processing fruit raw materials, fermentation and distillation to bottling the finished product and preparing it for sale.

The production had been operating since at least October 2024. However, the company obtained a licence to produce alcoholic beverages only in May 2025.

Some of the products manufactured were kept off the official books. No excise tax stamps were obtained for them, and the sale of the alcohol was not reflected in the company’s tax reporting.

Law enforcement officers documented the sale of at least 1,200 bottles of alcoholic products and a further 77 litres sold on tap. During searches, more than 10 tonnes of illegally produced excise goods were seized.

“Tests confirmed that the seized products are spirit distillates and alcoholic beverages and do not meet the State Standard requirements for strong drinks made from fruit spirits,” the statement said.

The company director has been placed under a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest. A preventive measure is being decided for another suspect.
