In Latvia, a pro-Russian activist has been convicted over a €43 donation to the Russian army
This was reported by European Pravda.
On 7 October, the Riga City Court found Polina Kamlova guilty of transferring financial funds to support the Russian army in Ukraine and sentenced her to six years in prison. The court also imposed three years of probation supervision.
The woman was accused of transferring €43 to support the Russian army. According to Latvia’s State Security Service, via an acquaintance in Belarus acting as an intermediary, she took part in transferring funds to purchase drone signal-jamming equipment for Russian troops in Ukraine.
Before the verdict was announced, Kamlova called her actions a mistake and denied that she had wanted to support Russia’s war. She took part in the hearing remotely from prison.
For financing an armed conflict, Latvian law provides for up to ten years’ imprisonment with probation supervision of up to three years.
- Earlier, Latvia’s Security Service detained a man and a woman suspected of collecting information about the country’s defence capabilities for the benefit of Russian military intelligence.
