Agents of the ATESH partisan movement have claimed to have destroyed a 2TE116U freight diesel locomotive near the Liski railway station in Russia’s Voronezh region. The movement says this disrupted supplies to the Russian army on the Kupiansk axis.
ATESH reported this on Telegram.
The partisan movement says the locomotive sustained such damage that a major overhaul will be required to return it to service.
According to ATESH, the Liski rail hub is an important section of the southern route used by Russian forces to transport cargo from the Volga region, the Urals and Siberia towards Valuyki.
Along this route, the Russian command transfers heavy armoured vehicles, fuel and ammunition for the grouping fighting on the Kupiansk axis.
ATESH said that, amid a shortage of serviceable locomotives, damage to the diesel engine could lead to delays to military trains and disrupt supply schedules to the front.
