On the night of 14 October, Russia launched a large-scale attack on railway facilities in various regions of Ukraine. Locomotive and carriage depots, repair enterprises, railway stations and stops, as well as rolling stock, came under attack.

This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia chief Oleksandr Pertsovskyi. He said the Russians attacked the railway in Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Ternopil regions.

“Ternopil region. The power supply was knocked out; our specialists restored it immediately. Key routes were blocked due to an out-of-gauge obstruction — we organised alternatives and ensured trains could pass. The key point is that everyone was warned in advance, evacuated in an orderly manner, and got through the night without injuries or loss of life. Material losses are significant; we have been working on restoration since the morning,” the chair of the management board said in the statement.

Pertsovskyi added that trains in the capital’s rail hub were suspended due to a ballistic attack.
