The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into a possible war crime by Russian troops in Beryslav and nearby settlements.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

A critical humanitarian situation has been recorded in the city and surrounding settlements located near the line of contact.

Since the territories were liberated in November 2022, Russian troops have been systematically shelling these settlements and carrying out remote mining. As a result, the evacuation of civilians has been significantly complicated.

At present, around 300 civilians remain in Beryslav, including two children.

According to the прокуратура, the combination of these circumstances may indicate that Russian troops are deliberately creating conditions incompatible with the survival of the civilian population. This includes, in particular, restricting access to essential resources and the constant targeting of civilian infrastructure.

The pre-trial investigation was opened under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violations of the laws and customs of war. Its progress is being overseen by the leadership of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
