NEC Ukrenergo will not be able to restore the unique power transmission line pylon at the Dnipro River crossing in Kyiv, which was “cut down” by a Russian drone.
This was reported by Ukrenergo CEO Vitaliy Zaychenko, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
To maintain electricity transmission functions, the transmission system operator is immediately implementing alternative technical solutions. The unique structure has been completely destroyed, so specialists are working on new options. Ukrenergo will begin the relevant procedures to implement these solutions from 15 October.
Zaichenko stressed that the Russians’ use of drones capable of cutting down metal pylons has become a new serious challenge for Ukrainian power engineers.
In addition, the company is facing an acute shortage of spare equipment due to global growth in the energy sector worldwide. High demand on the international market has created long queues, and although many manufacturers are trying to prioritise Ukraine’s needs, most of them are constrained by existing contracts.
