The Council of the European Union has adopted new sanctions against three individuals and nine legal entities.

As stated on the Council’s website, these individuals are involved in importing sanctioned goods into Russia, as well as in circumventing restrictions in the trade in oil and financial transactions.

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, stressed that evading sanctions is tantamount to complicity in the war against Ukraine. She noted that the restrictions have already cost Moscow more than a trillion euros, and that further tightening will make waging war even more expensive for Russia.

The new sanctions list includes the Russian freight company MOVERS GROUP LLC and its chief executive, Dmytro Chudovskyi, as well as the customs broker LLC DT INIER together with its principal owner, Ivanna Savchuk. In addition, two Turkish trading companies — BEGLER TEKSTIL and MEDSE GROUP LLC — were sanctioned for organising a global network to import prohibited goods.

Sanctions were also imposed on the Russian financial company United Stream LLC and its founder, Svitlana Humeniuk. This organisation acted as a payment agent and intermediary in the import of goods from the EU.

To combat circumvention of the oil price cap and the shadow fleet, the European Union imposed sanctions on companies from the UAE, India and the Seychelles, including DIS Logistics DMCC, Vigor Marine Services LLP, SHIVA SHIPPING and HURUS TRADE FZE.

All the measures introduced provide for the freezing of the assets of sanctioned individuals and organisations within the EU, a ban on providing them with any financial resources, and an entry ban to EU countries for individuals. The decision has already entered into force following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
