Lithuania has frozen the assets of Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov, who were previously removed from the EU sanctions list.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys reported this on the social network “X”.
According to Budrys, Lithuania has applied a national sanctions regime to the oligarchs.
The head of Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry called the removal of Fridman and Usmanov from the EU sanctions list the wrong signal.
He stressed that sanctions pressure on Russia and on individuals who facilitate the waging of war against Ukraine must be strengthened and maintained on an ongoing basis.
The Kremlin’s war against #Ukraine is sustained by powerful interests that continue to benefit from and support Russia’s aggression. When two influential Russian oligarchs were removed from the #EU sanctions list, it sent the wrong signal. #Lithuania is taking action and will not look away. Today, we froze the assets of Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov under our national sanctions regime. Sanctions pressure on Russia and its war enablers must be strengthened and sustained.

- In addition to Lithuania, Estonia has already imposed national sanctions on the two Russian oligarchs. Earlier, Latvia took a similar decision.
