Bills adopted this week, which form part of Ukraine’s international commitments, will make it possible to receive some of the critically needed funds by the end of the year to cover this year’s budget financing gap. The relevant documents are already being prepared for submission to the European Commission.
The government has now begun gradually releasing funds that had been frozen. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said this during the government question time session.
“With hope and the understanding that the money will come in for the laws that have been passed. And with the hope that the next plenary weeks will be just as constructive, high-quality and effective,” he said.
There are no delays in spending in the defence sector, the head of government stressed.
Context
In September, the Cabinet announced maximum spending cuts due to a lack of funds in the budget. Ukraine failed to meet some commitments to partners, which led to the loss of funds it had been counting on.
In particular, funding was halted for measures to implement the Resilience Plans. Yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada voted to abolish preferential customs clearance for parcels containing orders from overseas marketplaces, which was part of the commitments.
