From the morning of 16 October, the Russians have continued to attack Ukraine’s energy facilities with drones. Over the course of the day, power engineers managed to restore electricity supply to more than one million consumers.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
Energy facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv Region, Kharkiv Region, Rivne Region, Volyn Region and Odesa Region came under attack. Damage caused by the strikes led to emergency power outages.
The situation remains most difficult in frontline areas and regions bordering Russia, where Russian forces strike energy infrastructure every day. Restoring damaged facilities is complicated by prolonged air-raid alerts and the threat of repeat shelling.
Despite this, over the course of the day power engineers restored electricity to more than 1 million consumers. Repair work is continuing in all regions where the security situation allows.
The Ministry of Energy also reminded that, due to grid constraints caused by Russian attacks, hourly power outage schedules are in place in some regions. For industry and businesses, power limitation schedules are being applied.
These measures are necessary to stabilise the operation of the power system and prevent larger-scale accidents.
- On the evening of 15 October, as a result of an enemy attack on a critical energy infrastructure facility, some districts of Kyiv and the surrounding region experienced a large-scale loss of power for consumers.
