Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo the protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from Russian attacks, strengthening air defences, and the construction of shelters.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this.

According to the President, on the night of 16 October and throughout the day, Russian forces again attacked Ukrainian energy facilities. Following a Russian strike the previous evening, parts of Volyn Region and Kyiv are still without electricity.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine constantly needs means to shoot down missiles and drones in order to protect people’s lives and critical infrastructure. He said new decisions in support of Ukraine are expected as early as this month.

The sides also separately discussed the need for shelters. Ukraine and Finland have established the Shelter Coalition, whose work, the President said, needs to be accelerated.

“Every Ukrainian city and community must have proper shelters,” Zelenskyy noted.

The President thanked Finland for its support for Ukraine and its readiness to contribute to strengthening the protection of the population.
