Defence company TAF Industries has launched the Kolibri 10” Advance FPV drone, equipped with an AI-based detection and automatic target re-acquisition module, AURA AI, developed by DOD Solution. This is stated in a TAF Industries press release.

The AURA AI module provides detection, identification, acquisition and tracking of moving and stationary targets. The solution is built around a proprietary single-board computer developed by DOD Solution, optimised to run artificial intelligence algorithms on FPV drones. Once AURA AI acquires a target, the operator confirms the strike and the module continues tracking the target and independently carries out the engagement. The company says this reduces the pilot’s workload and makes it possible to complete a combat mission even in conditions of GPS signal loss, active electronic warfare and limited or no communications.

“The automatic target re-acquisition module from DOD Solution identifies targets, increasing the drone’s level of autonomy with the help of AI. This feature primarily helps pilots see all potential threats and objects to engage by outlining them with a rectangle. In essence, the AI module highlights targets the pilot might not have noticed. Another advantage is the recognition of different classes of vehicles, which removes unnecessary cognitive load from the pilot. We decided to integrate AURA AI specifically into the Kolibri 10” Advance FPV drone because it is our flagship and most widely produced product. This allows us to scale the technology and make it available to more Ukrainian service personnel,” says Andrii Atamanenko, Product Owner for TAF Industries’ FPV drone line.

The Kolibri 10” Advance is TAF Industries’ flagship strike quadcopter with a 10-inch (25.4 cm) frame, belonging to the company’s advanced generation of FPV drones. TAF Industries said the drone with the AURA AI module has already been used by units of the 93rd Separate Mechanised Brigade “Kholodnyi Yar” and the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.

Kolibri 10” Advance FPV drones with the integrated AURA AI module are listed on Brave1 Market. Military units can order them, including using ePoints under the “Army of Drones Bonus” programme. Brave1 Market also offers, for ePoints, Kolibri 10” Advance variants with different types of video cameras and communications bands.

DOD Solution is an Estonian-Ukrainian defence technology company specialising in the development of onboard computers and autonomy technologies for unmanned systems. The company’s key product is AURA AI, an artificial intelligence-based module that provides detection, identification, target tracking and automatic target re-acquisition for drones in conditions without GPS, under electronic warfare countermeasures and with limited communications.

TAF Industries is a Ukrainian defence technology company that develops and manufactures solutions that operate effectively in combat conditions. The company’s portfolio includes more than 30 types of defence products, including FPV drones, a reconnaissance UAV, interceptor drones, electronic warfare systems and other technologies for the modern battlefield. TAF Industries has its own research and development (R&D) centre, a distributed network of production facilities and a professional team of engineers.

Recently, TAF Industries presented an updated version of the Kolibri 13″ FR1 carrier-relay platform. Key changes include a switch to a digital communications channel between the operator and the platform, an upgrade of the signal relay system for strike drones, and the introduction of several frequency configurations.
