Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence held a working meeting with representatives of 18 state institutions to align approaches to applying the NATO Status of Forces Agreement.

As the Ukrainian ministry’s press service reported, the event discussed criminal jurisdiction, amendments to procedural legislation, the procedure for handling claims, compensation for damage, as well as customs regulation and taxation.

The NATO SOFA agreement defines the legal status of service personnel from participating countries while they are on the territory of another state, the Ministry of Defence noted.

The basis for further work was a draft Implementation Plan, which the Ministry of Defence developed jointly with the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union. The proposals developed will be used to introduce amendments to Ukrainian legislation.
