Norway will provide Ukraine with 500 million Norwegian kroner (more than $45 million) in energy assistance ahead of winter.

This is stated on the Norwegian government’s website.

The funds are being allocated under the Nansen Programme to restore damaged infrastructure and ensure the stable operation of the power system.

Norway’s Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland, announced the funding for November and December during a visit to Kyiv. He stressed that, to avoid severe humanitarian consequences, Ukraine urgently needs to purchase equipment to repair facilities damaged by Russian shelling. In particular, the Ukrainian side said its top priority is underwater power cables.

The money will be channelled through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, enabling the rapid procurement of the necessary equipment and the carrying out of repairs.

  • Overall, this year Norway is providing Ukraine with 85 billion kroner under the Nansen Programme, of which 70 billion is for military needs and 15 billion for civilian and humanitarian assistance.
  • Overall, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Norway has already allocated more than 16 billion kroner for gas purchases, repairs and investment in Ukraine’s energy sector.
