An extremely difficult humanitarian situation is currently persisting not only in occupied Oleshky, but also in dozens of other settlements near the line of contact.
This was reported by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, during a session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, according to Ukrinform.
According to Prokudin, thousands of people in these settlements remain without electricity, gas, heating, humanitarian aid and access to medical care. In addition, the areas are still mined, and the Russian occupiers are carrying out forced passportisation and mobilisation there.
Prokudin noted that many residents of Oleshky and other occupied territories want to leave for Ukrainian-controlled territory, but the Russian side is doing everything possible to obstruct departures and conceal the real number of those wishing to leave.
At the same time, the temporary silence regime introduced for the humanitarian mission has enabled Kherson residents to visit their homes and dachas near the Dnipro for the first time in several years. Routes for civilians are being demined by the Ukrainian military, Prokudin added.
- On 27 October, a silence regime began in Oleshky from 3:00. It will last until 1 November.
- US First Lady Melania Trump and her representative joined the negotiations on the ceasefire terms, working directly with the leadership of Ukraine and Russia. She did not rule out a personal visit to Ukraine.
- On 25 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and Russia had agreed the timing of a ceasefire to carry out a humanitarian mission in Oleshky.
- On 27 October, Melania Trump said that the local ceasefire zone between Ukraine and Russia had expanded beyond the occupied city of Oleshky.
- At present, about 1,700 people remain trapped in the devastated city of Oleshky in Kherson region, and Russia is trying to turn the settlement into a deadly trap. Ukraine has repeatedly called for safe evacuation and international humanitarian access. Russia is ignoring such calls.
