Counter-intelligence officers from the Security Service detained a logistics company driver in the Kyiv region, suspected of directing strikes on local energy facilities.

The SBU reported this.

Among the enemy’s main “targets” were combined heat and power plants in the capital region, which were resuming operations after previous shelling.

To determine the current state of the energy infrastructure, the man, under the guise of work trips, drove around the perimeters of the plants and filmed their facades on his phone camera. He then returned home, compiled the footage, “pinned” it to coordinates on Google Maps and, with his own comments, prepared it to send to an FSB handler.

SBU officers documented how the man, driving a lorry, reconnoitred the state of restoration work on a power unit at a local CHP plant, and detained him as he was preparing a report for the enemy.

It was established that the man came to the Russians’ attention when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.

After being recruited, he communicated with the FSB via a specially created chatbot that the Russian security service uses to collect intelligence.

In addition to directing strikes on energy facilities, he also tracked, for Russia, the locations of repair bases of the Defence Forces.

During searches, two mobile phones were seized from the detainee, one of which he tried to destroy to conceal evidence of working for the Russians.

Investigators from the Security Service served him with a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The man is being held in custody without the right to post bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

  • In Odesa, counter-intelligence officers from the Security Service of Ukraine detained a 21-year-old student suspected of cooperating with Russian special services. According to the investigation, he collected information to prepare acts of sabotage and also carried out tasks to organise propaganda provocations.
