A court has sentenced a traitor to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. He was detained in March this year while preparing an act of sabotage in Kropyvnytskyi.
The Security Service reported this.
On the instructions of Russia’s FSB, the man tried to blow up one of the key electrical substations to cut power to most of Kropyvnytskyi’s strategic and social facilities. He was to retrieve an improvised explosive device from a cache, based on 300 grams of plastic explosive, and plant it near the transformers. After reporting that the device had been planted, the Russian special services planned to detonate the site remotely.
SBU officers acted pre-emptively and caught the agent red-handed near the regional centre at the very moment he was pulling the explosive from the hide.
The traitor turned out to be a local unemployed man, recruited by the FSB through Telegram channels advertising easy money. He planned to carry out his handler’s assignment at night and intended to take the explosive device by taxi.
During searches, officers seized detonating equipment and three mobile phones that he used for covert communication with his handlers.
The court found the man guilty of high treason committed under martial law, as well as unlawful handling of explosive substances.
