An unauthorised drone flight was detected in Moldova’s airspace on 31 October after it entered from Ukraine.

Moldova’s Ministry of Defence reported this, Newsmaker reports.

The drone was travelling from the village of Semenivka in Odesa Region towards a village in the Rîbnița District, and was later spotted near the village of Bănești in the Telenești District.

The ministry later said that, according to preliminary information, the drone had left the country’s territory.

Due to the security threat, Moldova’s authorities temporarily restricted the use of airspace in the north and centre of the country; however, at 17:14 these restrictions were fully lifted following a reassessment of the situation.

  • Since the start of the year, Moldova has recorded 63 cases of unauthorised drone overflights, 15 of them in October.
  • The day before, on 29 October, Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and violations of Moldova’s and Romania’s airspace.
