Following large-scale Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Ukraine’s nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce generation output. A gradual return to nominal operating levels will take place after repairs to the damaged networks.
This was reported by Artem Nekrasov, First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, during a briefing on the situation in the power system, the Energy Ministry’s press service writes.
“Due to large-scale and systematic Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce generation output. A return to nominal levels will take place gradually as soon as power engineers restore the networks damaged by shelling,” the statement said.
According to Nekrasov, Russian forces continue to attack electricity generation facilities and substations through which power is transmitted to consumers.
As a result of Russian shelling, some consumers have been left without electricity supply in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Emergency repair work is under way in all regions where the security situation allows.
The situation remains most difficult in the capital region. In Kyiv and Kyiv region, grid restrictions are being applied due to serious damage to energy equipment. Repair crews are working around the clock.
Emergency outages are also in effect in Kharkiv region. The cause is equipment damage from previous attacks and a drop in voltage levels in the high-voltage network. The hourly outage schedules will be reinstated once the situation stabilises.

In most regions of Ukraine, hourly outage schedules are currently in place for all categories of consumers, along with capacity restrictions for industry.
The Ministry of Energy warns that the situation may change during the day. People are advised to check official resources of distribution system operators in their regions for up-to-date information on outages and schedule changes.
