Ukraine and Egypt plan to expand co-operation in agricultural trade, logistics and land reclamation.
This was agreed by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi and Khaled Ahmed Salah El-Din, Secretary General of the Sustainable Development Agency “Mostakbal Misr”, during a visit by a Ukrainian delegation to Egypt, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.
The officials discussed increasing supplies of Ukrainian products to the Egyptian market, establishing a Ukrainian food hub there, joint projects for storage and processing, as well as the safety of civilian shipping in the Black Sea.
They also discussed exchanging experience in irrigation. Egypt has considerable experience in implementing large-scale irrigation projects, and this should help Ukraine restore its land-reclamation infrastructure after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam.
According to Vysotskyi, the countries will establish a separate framework for co-operation to exchange technical expertise and prepare joint practical projects in this area.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy notes that Egypt remains one of Ukraine’s key trading partners in the agricultural sector. In the first ten months of this year, exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the country reached $825 million, with wheat and maize forming the backbone of supplies.
