Germany’s far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) wants to organise a meeting of representatives from Germany, the United States and Russia to discuss a settlement to the war, but without Ukraine’s participation. The summit is planned for spring 2027 in Abu Dhabi.
According to Markus Frohnmaier, deputy head of the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag and a member of the German parliament’s foreign affairs committee, the party wants to organise a meeting involving Germany, the United States and Russia.
The AfD claims it has established contacts with representatives of both countries. In particular, MPs said they have links to the US State Department and advisers to President Donald Trump.
The party also insists it is in contact with representatives of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the Russian presidential administration and the relevant intelligence services.
Meanwhile, the AfD is in first place in nationwide polls of voting intentions in Germany.
According to Le Monde, the party’s support stands at 27–30%. By comparison, Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s CDU-CSU coalition has 18–23%.
