Gerry Rice, the director of the IMF Communications Department, has said some "outstanding issues" need to be resolved before the second review of the Extended Fund Facility programme is completed.
"The outstanding issues revolve around structural fiscal measures needed to ensure medium-term sustainability," he said at a press briefing on 14 January 2016.
He added: "The budget deficit of 3.75 per cent of GDP is broadly consistent with the programme's objectives."
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has already said that he is going to meet the Fund's representatives at the World Economic Forum in Davos next week. He is planning to hold additional consultations on the completion of the review in order to unblock the third tranche of 1.7bn dollars.
