Ukraine seeks to ban fuel imports from Russia - premier

No more oil from the agressor neighbour, says Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has suggested the import of Russian oil products should be banned.

"I ask the Economic Development and Trade Ministry to work on a procedure for banning purchase of fuel from the aggressor state, i.e. Russia," Yatsenyuk told a cabinet meeting on 6 April.

He expressed surprise at the fact that the supply of oil products from Russia has not been subject to sanctions. The prime minister said the decision would be discussed at an extraordinary cabinet meeting on Friday, 8 April.

In 2015, Ukraine imported 845m dollars worth of oil products from Russia, which amounted to almost 22 per cent of total oil imports. The supplies of Russian diesel fuel were suspended last October but then resumed in March.
