Volunteer Suprun appointed deputy health minister

Suprun is seen as a potential leader of the medical reform in the country.

The Cabinet of Ministers on 22 July appointed the Director for Humanitarian Initiatives of the World Congress of Ukrainians, medical volunteer Ulyana Suprun, as the deputy minister of health of Ukraine.

When ushering the candidate at a Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman introduced Suprun as a potential leader of the medical reform in the country.

Ulyana Suprun until recently was a US citizen of Ukrainian descent.

"She is a volunteer and a wonderful doctor," Groysman said.

Earlier, President Petro Poroshenko said called on the Cabinet requesting to appoint Suprum to the post.

The first priority of Suprun on the new job will be the development of the strategy of national health care reform.

On 8 July, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed deputy Minister of Health Roman Vasylyshyn, who was detained on bribe charges.
