On 16 December, at 11.00 in the framework of an information partnership of Gorshenin Institute, and the Reanimation Package of Reforms and the support of LB.ua website a roundtable conference will be held "The accountability of courts before society: myth or reality?"
On 7 November, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine has announced a contest for the occupation of 120 vacant posts of judges of the new Supreme Court.
In accordance with the law of Ukraine "On the Judicial System and Status of Judges", on 11 November was created Public Integrity Board to assist the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine in establishing the compliance od a judge (a candidate for the post of judge) to the criteria of professional ethics and integrity for the qualification assessment purposes.
Is the mechanism adequate to the task of restoring public confidence in justice? Will the Public Integrity Board have real opportunity to influence the selection of new judges and qualification evaluation of judges? Should the PIB be attached to the mechanisms of disciplinary responsibility of judges? Would not become a soap bubble, under the guise of which the Higher Qualification Commission and High Council of Justice will steer the judiciary?
The participants of the roundtable will offer their visions of these issues.
