The son of the ex-president of Ukraine, Oleksandr Yanukovych, has filed a lawsuit against the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in Kyiv's Pecherskyy district court.

The essence of the lawsuit registered on 10 August is unknown, Ukrainian News reported on Friday, 11 August.

Judge Larysa Tsokol will consider the claim.

Oleksandr Yanukovych was the sole owner of the All-Ukrainian Development Bank.

After the Council of the European Union imposed sanctions against Oleksandr Yanukovych, the National Bank of Ukraine in September 2014 classified the bank as problematic, and as insolvent on 27 November of the same year.

In October 2014, Yanukovych demanded a compensation for the bank from Ukraine by turning to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

On 20 January 2016, the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine upheld the NBU decision on the bank.
