The number of virus infections and hacking attacks in Ukraine has increased from 10 million to 100 million over the year, Ukrinform has quoted Cisco information security expert Volodymyr Ilibman as saying.

"Year to year, the number of attacks and viruses grows. This is a fantastic figure. If you look at the number of virus strains in 2016 and 2017, this figure increased from 10 million to 100 million. And these are unique viruses," Ilibman said.

In his words, current hacking attacks are unprecedented by their technical sophistication and destructive effect.

According to Ilibman, a big share of fully open development platforms creates a huge risk of attacks with the help of ransomware. He said that criminals are thoroughly studying sensitivities to use them as targets for their attacks in the future.

"It is necessary to remember that threats change. Therefore education is always necessary Staff should be trained new technologies several times a year. They should be told how criminals seek to switch off the defence. They should be taught basic Internet 'hygiene'," he said.
