Russian Orthodox Church severs ties with Ecumenical Patriarchate

The Russian Orthodox Church decided to break the eucharistic communication with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as reported on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church.

"At the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, held in Minsk on 15 October 2018, the Statement of the Holy Synod was adopted in connection with the encroachment of the Constantinople Patriarchate on the canonical territory of the Russian Orthodox Church. Members of the Holy Synod found it impossible to continue the eucharistic communication with the Patriarchate of Constantinople," reads the statement.

On 11 October, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate announced that it proceeds to granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church.
