Scoop of the weekend: Ukraine condemns forced plane landing in Belarus

Belarus

Ukraine has condemned the Belarusian authorities for forcing down a passenger plane and detaining the founder of the pro-opposition Telegram channel Nexta, Raman Pratasevich. Ukrainian Foreign Minister spokesman Oleh Nikolenko described the incident as "yet another attack on the freedom of speech by the Belarusian authorities" and demanded Pratasevich's immediate release.

Coronavirus

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have registered two more coronavirus-related fatalities, their total thus reaching 93 since the start of the pandemic.

Some 74,783 Ukrainians have been administered two doses of a coronavirus vaccine as of 22 May, the Health Ministry has said.

Rights

A march in support of transgender people's rights was held in Kyiv on 22 May.

Moldova

Thirty-one checkpoints on Moldovan-Ukrainian border will resume operation as of 24 May, the State Border Service has said.

Incident

Police have detained a man in connection with a shooting incident in Uman, Cherkasy Region as a result of which two Israeli nationals sustained gun wounds. The suspected shooter turned out to be a 22-year-old Israeli citizen.

One person got killed and five injured as a hot-air balloon collapsed in Khmelnytskyy Region.
