The European Union will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons for Ukraine to help it repel the Russian army. This will be the first such case for the EU. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"We are strengthening our support for Ukraine. For the first time, the EU will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons and equipment to the country under attack," she said.

Moreover, according to von der Leyen, the European Union will strengthen sanctions against the Kremlin.

EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell said that a special coordination mechanism with the Ukrainian side would be set up for this assistance, so that the assistance would meet the needs as much as possible.

It will be recalled that Germany will hand over 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger missiles to Ukraine.

Germany has also allowed the Netherlands to send 400 rocket-propelled grenade launchers to Ukraine to help fight Russian invaders.

It was reported that this turnaround could mean a rapid increase in European military aid to Ukraine, as much of the continent's arms and ammunition are at least partly German-made, allowing Berlin to legally control their transfer.

Earlier, Germany refused to supply weapons to Kyiv and blocked the delivery of weapons to Ukraine from a number of countries. However, after the Russian Federation declared war on our country and began bombing and shelling Ukrainian cities, Germany changed its mind.
