German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has mentioned that Germany plans to reduce its dependence on Russian gas, ZN reports. To be able to do this, Germany is building two liquefied natural gas terminals, one in Brunsbüttel and another one in Wilhelmshaven, and increasing its natural gas reserves.
"We will do more to ensure a reliable energy supply of our country. We need to change the course to overcome our dependence on imports from individual energy suppliers," - Olaf Scholz told the member of the parliament at a special session of the Bundestag on the crisis in Ukraine. According to him, the sooner Germany increases the production of renewable energy, the better.
Germany will increase the volume of natural gas in its storage facilities by two billion cubic meters through long-term options and will purchase additional natural gas on world markets in agreement with the European Union.
As previously reported, Germany is also suspending the certification of Russia's Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline and handing over 1,000 units anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger missiles to Ukraine
