According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Visa is suspending access to its network for the sanctioned Russian banks.
Clients of these banks will no longer be able to use their cards abroad or with online payment systems.
However, these cards can still be used in Russia through the national payment system.
“Thanks for this support! This is a huge move towards our joint victory,” the message says.
The President of Ukraine appealed to Mastercard and Visa to block Russia from international payment systems.
Mastercard CEO, Michael Miebach, stated that a number of financial institutions are blocked from the Mastercard payment system due to sanctions that were imposed on Russia after its attack on Ukraine.
